Maps are an excellent addition to proposals, helping clients better understand the details of their itinerary. In Mogu, we offer two ways to add interactive maps to your trips:
Automatic map creation through the itinerary block
To generate a map automatically, simply use the itinerary block and add any service to each day. Since every service (hotel, flight, activity, etc.) can be automatically loaded from Google with all its photos and address, this allows us to geolocate them on a map.
This feature is currently in beta, and we’re collecting feedback to continue improving it. 😉
From the itinerary settings, you can choose whether you want the map to be displayed or not, as shown below. Can it be viewed for just one day? Not yet.
From the proposal, the potential client can zoom in and out and choose whether to view all the services within a given day, which will appear in grey.
Map creation via Google Maps
Google Maps offers a very complete map generator with extensive customization options: colors, background view, icons, and route format.
You simply need to create the map and copy the URL into the map block. You can do this either through the map generator or by copying the URL directly from the main Google Maps view. Below, we explain both methods:
In this video summary we tell you how you can create the map from Google Maps.
1. Map builder
This functionality can be used to great advantage, so we recommend that you follow our tips to be able to customise even the colour of your maps. Let's take it step by step:
Step 1: Open Google Maps
Inside Google Maps click on the menu (three lines) in the top left corner of the screen:
Click on ‘Your sites’:
Click on ‘Create map’:
And finally, a new tab opens. This is where we start to build our map from scratch:
We can give the map a title and customise the background colour:
Step 2: Add the points
This step consists of adding the points of our itinerary to the map. To do this, you have to enter the city/restaurant/hotel or any other place you want to appear in the search engine:
In this way a point is added to which we can give a name and also personalise it with colours or icons:
Or even show the order of stops:
Step 3: Join the points on the map
Once we have all the points on the map, there is the option to join them:
And as with the points, this polygon can also be customised:
Step 4: We share
In order to insert it in our proposal, click on ‘get a preview’ and copy the url.
The last step is to paste the URL into MOGU:
2. Insert simple map
If, on the other hand, you prefer not to create a map from scratch, and you simply want to insert a Google Maps url... we also show you how to do it. You only have to go to Google Maps and select the point or route you want to show.
A specific point (destination city, airport, location of a museum you are going to visit, location of a restaurant, etc.).
A route (e.g. flight from one airport to another, a bus trip between several cities, etc.)
Be careful! Because the zoom you have on the map when you copy the URL, is the one that will appear later in your proposal.
