In this article we explain how to collect part of an installment ahead of its due date, without changing the booking total.
When to use it
A traveler with installment payments asks to pay part of an installment early.
In a pre-booking, which is created with a single pending payment for the full total, you want to collect a deposit now and the rest later.
How to make a partial payment
1. In the booking detail, open the ⋮ menu of the installment you want to split. 2. Choose Make partial payment now.
3. In the Partial payment now panel you will see the Installment amount and how it will be split: what is Paid now, dated today, and what is Still pending, with its original due date. The two amounts always add up to the installment amount. 4. Enter the Amount to pay now, which must be greater than 0 and lower than the pending amount. 5. Check the concept, which comes as Advance on followed by the installment name, and choose the payment method. 6. Confirm.
What happens when you confirm
A new payment is created for that amount, dated today, with the usual flow of the chosen method.
The original installment is reduced by that amount and keeps its due date.
The booking total does not change.
If the installment was scheduled for automatic card charging, the reduced amount will be charged on its date.
The two payments are linked in the list: the new one shows Partial payment of and the installment name, and the installment shows Reduced by the amount, with the code and date of the partial payment.
If you chose External payment, the partial payment stays Pending until you mark it yourself: once you have confirmed that the money has arrived, open the partial payment’s ⋮ menu and choose Set as paid. With a card, the status updates on its own when the traveler pays.
When the booking is confirmed
A booking with installment payments is confirmed by the first money collected from the first installment: either the first installment paid in full, or a partial payment on it, whichever comes first.
A partial payment on a later installment does not confirm the booking, just like paying the second installment before the first.
In a pre-booking, collecting the deposit confirms the booking, and the travelers receive their confirmation then.
